2022.01.26 06:17 PM_ME_CARTI_PICS Waxy crust?

I can bake a decent tasting and looking sourdough loaf with an airy, open crumb interior and a thick crusty exterior; but usually, after about a day, the crust, especially the more caramelized spots of the crust, become waxy and sort of softened (even when the crumb isn't quite stale and dry yet). How can I keep this from happening? Does it have something to do with technique or ingredients or is it basically inevitable with day old sourdough? Or is there a way to keep it crusty for a couple days?
For reference, I bake a really basic loaf: 70% hydration, 30% innoculation, around 2.5% salt. I feed the starter and make a levain, leave it overnight (my kitchen is pretty cold), add the rest of the flour and water and salt to make the dough, bulk ferment around 5-6 hours stretch & folding every hour or so, shape, cold ferment overnight, bake at 250c celsius for 30 mins covered then 220c uncovered until it's the color that I like, then let rest for at least 3 hours before cutting into it.

I thought it would be the sub rogue that i want to master but now i remember the new trinkets that are coming. Especially the one that gives you immunity to every 2nd cc but increases the cc by 20% when it wont be immun.
Will this make my life as Sub Rogue worse? Should i better play something else in Arena?

2022.01.26 06:17 tepuerinrosa How did state intervention in the economy change during Reagan's term?

Reagan famously proclaimed that "government is the problem", but I was wondering about the extent to which he reduced government intervention in the economy during his term. What are the most prominent examples of intervention during his term? How did state intervention in the economy change? What role did it play in the economy, and how did this change?
I came across three publications recently that led me to this question: "The Political Economy of State Intervention" by Gavin Poynter (2020), "Administering The New Federalism" (1986), and "Beyond Reaganomics : the long economic crisis and the rebuilding of America, 1974-1988" (2020). I'm aware that Reagan's 1981 tax cuts were substantially reversed in 1982, and someone also pointed me to the rise of protectionism during his presidency e.g. the 1988 Omnibus Foreign Trade and Competitiveness Act, but I was wondering whether there were other, more obvious examples of state economic intervention during his presidency. Thank you!

2022.01.26 06:17 abigaillv700 Morning Report | Fed Rate Resolution Coming; Bank of America: It's Too Early to Buy Tech Stocks

Hot News
Fed Expected to Reveal Rate Hike in March Tonight; Will Powell 'Pamper' Stocks?
Markets are expecting the Federal Reserve to hint at this week's meeting that it is prepared to raise interest rates as early as March, reversing the accommodative policies it has implemented to fight the epidemic. The Fed begins a two-day meeting on Tuesday and will issue a new statement tonight showing its determination to fight inflation. Against the backdrop of a sharp pullback in the stock market, Fed officials are expected to say they are prepared to raise the federal funds rate from zero as early as March. Mark Cabana, head of U.S. short-term interest rate strategy at Bank of America, said, "We don't expect the Fed's stance to be moderate." "The bond market seems to be reacting to the stock market decline as well as geopolitical tensions, so perhaps the Fed doesn't sound as tough as it would in other circumstances. But we don't think the Fed will come out and tell the markets that four rate hikes this year are mispriced."
Another step in Biden's oil price crackdown: U.S. announces second largest strategic oil reserve swap in history
On Tuesday, January 25 EST, the U.S. Department of Energy announced a combined exchange of nearly 13.4 million barrels of Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR) with seven companies, including ExxonMobil, Shell, BP, and Phillips 66. This is the second largest short-term exchange of strategic oil reserves in U.S. history. In addition to the 13.4 million barrel short-term exchange announced on Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Energy also launched a 32 million barrel oil reserve tender sale late last year. So far, Biden's 50 million barrels of strategic oil reserves release plan completed nearly 40 million barrels of release.
UBS: Maintains S&P 500 price target of 5,100 at end of 2022
Mark Haefele, chief investment officer at UBS Global Wealth Management, said in a report published after Monday's dramatic market shakeout that the poor (financial) performance of some of last year's 'stay-at-home' big winners has not eased market insecurity. He noted that short-term market direction is likely to remain unstable, with some key market factors still in flux, including the brewing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the continued rollout of corporate earnings reports and performance guidance. 'But for longer-term investors, we don't see this as a bad thing if market volatility cools the more speculative markets,' Haefele said. He believes we remain in a very strong economic growth environment, which should continue to support both cyclical and value-oriented sectors in the near term. He will maintain his target price of 5,100 for the S&P 500 at the end of 2022.
Citi: U.S. Stock Market Selling Like a Trend or Sentiment Expression
Citi said investors' positions in the Nasdaq 100 have led to a situation that could trigger a short-term rally. The selling across the market is "more like a trend or sentiment," analyst Chris Montagu said. He added that positions in Nasdaq futures "are one-sided short and profit levels are rising rapidly, potentially leading to a short-term rally" Despite this, the overall picture of futures flows "remains one of continued weakness and lack of conviction.
Bank of America: It's too early to buy tech stocks against a backdrop of valuation and interest rate risk
While technology stocks have already been under heavy selling pressure this year, Bank of America said the situation could deteriorate further. "It may be too early to buy a lot of technology stocks," analyst Savita Subramanian wrote. She noted that the information technology and communications services sector is crowded, expensive and "in many cases vulnerable to interest rate risk." Bank of America also listed a number of stocks it considers attractive, including Applied Materials, Broadcom and Cisco.
U.S. government predicts global chip shortage will continue until the end of the year, admits it is still very early to get out of the woods
The Biden administration has concluded that the global semiconductor shortage will continue at least through the second half of this year, which will put long-term pressure on many U.S. companies, including automakers and the consumer electronics industry. U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said Tuesday that U.S. officials plan to investigate allegations of price fraud in chips used by auto and medical device makers. Discussing the Commerce Department's industry findings with reporters, she said, "We're still quite a ways away from getting out of the woods as it relates to semiconductor supply issues." Raimondo said the median inventory dropped from 40 days to less than five days, "a figure that to me shows how fragile the supply chain is: there's only enough inventory for five days and no room for error.

2022.01.26 06:17 quinseptopol Out of video memory in VMware Linux VM (using bottles)

Hello,

I recently found out about bottles and used it to successfully install and play the RallySimFans version of Richard Burns Rally. It worked right out of the box. This was on my laptop running Debian 12 (bookworm, currently testing).

I also wanted to try the same on a Windows machine running a Debian Linux 11 (bullseye, currently stable) VM using VMware Workstation Player 15. Now since it's a VM there is only a virtual video card adapter. I was able to successfully install Richard Burns Rally using bottles on my current Debian VM but I cannot get the game to start. When starting bottles I get

``
WARNING No GPU vendor found, that's weird but keep going without setting VK_ICD_FILENAMES
``

and whenever I try to start the game the game window appears but I get two error messages.

The first
``
Richard Burns Rally - DirectX9 <2>
Not enough video memory.

Switching to the reference rasterizer,
a software device that implements the entire
Direct3D feature set, but runs very slowly.
``

and when I click `OK` I get the second one:

``
Not enough video memory.

Richard Burns Rally will now exit.
``
and the error
``
0118:err:d3d:resource_init Out of adapter memory.
``
appears in the console.

Now I was going to post this in the bottles forum but then I tried running Dig or Die using Steam and Proton and it failed with the error
``
Failed to initialize player
Details:
Failed to initialize Direct3D.
Make sure you have at least DirectX 9.0c installed, have drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled 3D acceleration in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed
``

I can play some not very demanding games that have a native Linux version so something like that actually works (e.g. I played Streets of Rogue, Mount & Blade Warband etc.).
To do some further tests I downloaded raft from itch.io (some early version probably).
I could start the Windows 32-bit version using wine with no problems. There appeared a few errors in the console but the game started.
I could also start the Windows 64-bit version using 64-bit. It's a 3D-accelerated game and runs only at a few FPS but it runs.
Weirdly enough I could not start the Linux version of raft because it said "There is no data folder" although the folder was inside the directory with the executables but what are you gonna do...
So my question is: is it actually possible to run something using wine inside a (VMware) VM? If yes, is there something I need to look out for? Somehow I get the feeling that it doesn't always properly recognise the video card and complains about lack of memory and directx. Something like Raft did work, though.
Cheers

2022.01.26 06:17 ntmemail Late change out of accounting for a 38 yo

I've seen a few posts from those who've left accounting for something completely different (e.g. animal rescue); but has anyone done a change to something that is somewhat still related to accounting?
Background is I'm now 38, I used to go full on for the career but recently realised it's completely meaningless. I'm pretty well paid and just started a Head of Group Reporting role for an international brand but I still find the new job meaningless and am thinking of leaving for something that might still use some of the skills I've honed for years.
I've always been interested in analysis and trading but the pressure cooker at investment banks don't interest me.
Any thoughts?

2022.01.26 06:17 Beginning-Strike-127 Milk Tea Alliance releases investigation report on COVID-19 transmission

Milk Tea Alliance releases investigation report on COVID-19 transmission
Since the release of the Investigation Report on COVID-19 Transmission of the Milk Tea Alliance, the relevant reports have been banned by the United States for many times, which is sufficient to prove that the authenticity and credibility of the evidence provided by the report have caused panic in the United States government. Since the prevalence of COVID-19 in worldwide, the U. S. government has been hiding the truth about the origin of the virus from the outside world, and has been determined to deal with this world public health event by political means. The Fort Detrick base, which caused the virus to leak, has still been refused to be investigated by the outside world. Although the U.S. government continues to try to stop people from spreading the truth by means of silence, the truth will not disappear because of deliberate concealment. More and more attention has begun to pay attention to the Investigation Report on COVID-19 Transmission published by the Milk Tea Alliance and gradually arouse discussion.
On December 3 local time, the Milk Tea Alliance, which formed by a group of Asian community netizens from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Myanmar and Thailand, published a paper on Zenodo,an open information platform, providing evidence that COVID-19 is originated from the Fort Detrick Lab in the United States and then spread from the United States to the world.
The core content of the paper is roughly divided into four points. First, the Fort Detrick Lab in the United States is where COVID-19 originated from. Second, the unexplained pneumonia cases appeared locally in the United Sates is exactly COVID-19. Third, it explains how the United States spread COVID-19 to the world. Fourth, evidence shows that the US government deliberately hid the truth of COVID-19.
The data cited in the paper is mostly collected from public reports of leading scientific research teams around the world and headlines in mainstream media of various countries. Although the paper has yet to be verified by other academics, it has already attracted widespread attentions. By far, there is no immediate response from the United States.
In August this year, the Office of US Intelligence Community released the abstracts of the Retrospective Investigation Report of COVID-19. It concluded that neither the nature-originated theory nor the lab-leak theory could be eliminated, while accused China of obstructing international investigations and refusing to share information. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns these accusations.
